Special Needs Ministry
WHAT IS KIDHAVEN?
Angela White
Director of KidHaven
Angela knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher. It was later in life when her children started headstart that she accepted that calling on her life. Angela started in education as a special education para-professional 20 years ago. That is when she realized the calling for teaching was specific to special education. Her college journey was in special education and graduated from East Central University with a Bachelor’s in Science in 2008. She then taught at Crowder Public School for 7 years. While there she taught JH Special Education and JH and HS mathematics. During that time, she found a new passion for leading and supporting teachers and staff.
This led to her starting back to college for her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. In 2015 she became the principal at Krebs Elementary, as well as the Special Education Director, and continues to work there full time to this day.
Angela fully believes that God has prepared her journey of education experience over the last 20 years for a time such as this. In 2021, God really started speaking to Angela’s heart to start a special needs ministry for church families.
And in January 2022 KidHaven was launched! KidHaven exists to create a safe place for children and offers a sensory atmosphere that comforts them. While kids our in our care, they will experience a time of worship and the love of Jesus in a way that is accessible to them with dedicated and trained volunteers.
In Luke 14 we see a glimpse of the heart of Jesus for people when he tells the man to go into the streets and invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind to his banquet. As a body of believers, we want to use Jesus as our model to create a church family that compels people with disabilities to come in so that His house may be full.
If you have a child PK-6 with special needs and would like to register them for Kidhaven, please click on this link to get them registered.
If you have a child older than the 6th grade with special needs, please reach out to her and we will see if we can offer some support that will hopefully help your child access the youth group comfortably.
